Search engine indexing collects, parses, and stores data to facilitate fast and accurate information retrieval. Index design incorporates interdisciplinary concepts from linguistics, cognitive psychology, mathematics, informatics, physics and computer science. An alternate name for the process in the context of search engines designed to find web pages on the Internet is Web indexing. Popular engines focus on the full-text indexing of online, natural language documents. Media types such as video and audio and graphics are also searchable. Meta search engines reuse the indices of other services and do not store a local index, whereas cache-based search engines permanently store the index along with the corpus. Unlike full-text indices, partial-text services restrict the depth indexed to reduce index size. Larger services typically perform indexing at a predetermined time interval due to the required time and processing costs, while agent-based search engines index in real time. IndexingThe purpose of storing an index is to optimize speed and performance in finding relevant documents for a search query. Without an index, the search engine would scan every document in the corpus, which would require considerable time and computing power. For example, while an index of 10,000 documents can be queried within milliseconds, a sequential scan of every word in 10,000 large documents could take hours. The additional computer storage required to store the index, as well as the considerable increase in the time required for an update to take place, are traded off for the time saved during information retrieval. Q. i have just launched a site. but the search engines have not indexed it yet. generally how much time does it take to reflect your site in search engines? and what are the ways through which we can optimize a site so that it can reflect in search engines and the ranking can be improved. Asked by sharma_shikhar - Fri Jul 3 09:38:04 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are too many ways of optimising your site to explain it here. Google "Search Engine Optimisation" and read the articles. Go to submitexpress.com and test your meta tags there (free). Correct accordingly. Submit your site every month (but NOT MORE!). Preferably, change the contents of your home page regulalry (ie extracts of articles, RSS etc). Subscribe to as many social networks as possible, and "slide in" your URL (external links to your site). That's for getting "known". As far as "how long" is concerned: it can take two to eight months (average), but if you are on a niche, very well optimized, you can get it on a few days. Q. On my website ( ) I currently have a system where I use an iframe and some basic php to insert my pages into the iframes. I used to not use the php to insert pages into the iframe, NOT using the php I was very quickly able to change content, without having to reload other content. However when i told example.htm to insert into my iframe, it looked fantastic when you loaded it from my site, but what would happen is search engines would index it and go directly to the pages. So now my links looik like this: /index.php?main=genesis When you load my pages it forces you to reload the page you are on to see the content that is inserted into the frame. If you haven't received a good answer for your question, you may want to consider the following, 1) Re-post your question. Newer questions get more activity on Yahoo!
