From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The term gay (ɡeɪ) was originally used, until well into the mid-20th century, primarily to refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy"; it had also come to acquire some connotations of "immorality" as early as 1637. The term later began to be used in reference to homosexuality, in particular, from the early 20th century, a usage that may have dated prior to the 19th century. In modern English, gay has come to be used as an adjective, and occasionally as a noun, that refers to the people, practices, and culture associated with homosexuality. By the end of the 20th century the word gay was recommended by major style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex. At about the same time, a new, pejorative use was visible in some parts of the world. In the UK, U.S., and Australia, this connotation, among younger generations of speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay."). In this use the word does not mean "homosexual", so that it can be used, for example, of an inanimate object or abstract concept of which one disapproves, but the extent to which it still retains connotations of homosexuality has been debated. Q. I'm sick and tired of gays who claim that they've been hurt by some member of the church, and turn their backs on God. One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. It's like an excuse to absolve guilt, and blame society for any self hatred that results in irresponsibility, and bitterness. Q. Hypothetically, what would be the problem if gays were allowed to marry? Asked by a Swirling Mass of Contradiction - Tue May 12 14:58:07 2009 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments A. Marriage grew out of the world religions. Thus it's a religious institution that the government should have stayed out of because of the separation of church and state. But for health reasons they stepped into it and now they are in a mess of trying to decide who is married. Answered by Wasp - Tue May 12 15:06:47 2009 Why do gays feel the need to push their lifestyle down our throats?
Q. Yes being gay IS a lifestyle Just like being a drug dealer is a lifestyle its the style of life that they choose, I am tired of gays pushing their lifestyle down our throats, people should be free to choose whether or not they like a certain lifestyle Just because you disagree with it doesn't mean that you hate the people living it. I don't push my straight lifestyle down anyones throat, so i'd expect them to respect me in the same way. Asked by Jamal L - Sat Sep 27 12:53:58 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. Amen to that. I don't give a rip what they do - why do we have to have it shoved at us ? What they want is total acceptance, but the best they're going to get is tolerance. They have tolerance now (from most rational people) but they think they can force things to change. In the religion/spirituality forum there is so much, "Why do Christians hate homosexuals ?" . They will not accept that Christian principles condemn homosexuality. (And don't give me, "where in the Bible does it say THAT ?" It doesn't say in the Bible that you shouldn't put babies in blenders and make smoothies out of them - some things were too obvious to even mention). So they want Christians to change the beliefs to make their lifestyle acceptable, not just… [cont.] Answered by hooyutoo2 - Sat Sep 27 13:57:47 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "gays" |
