What can maintenance procedures are immediately done when a bird is ingested in an Airbus 319 engine?
Q. Hello! I am presently research on the maintenance procedures done if a bird damages three or more blades inside the turbofan of an Airbus 319. It's similar to an accident that happened in our country, fortunately, the plane landed safely. Anyway, can anyone provide insights on what is to be done to repair the "broken" blades? What good references can be used for the procedures done? Will NDT be involved? Thanks!

A. The 319 has CFM56 engines hanging on it, but the basics pretty much apply to all jet engines. FIrst, what is the flight crew write-up pertaining to the strike? If the engine didn't have unusual vibrations, didn't have a compressor stall, and the EGT (exhaust gas temp) were all normal, they probably would only have to do a visual inspection of the fan and core engine/splitter area (area separating the bypass air from the core air). An exhaust inspection would also be performed. They may be required to borescope (internal view of some compressor stages performed through some borescope ports in the compressor case using a fiberoptic view of the internals) Examine the VBV's (variable bleed valves) looking for damage or evidence of birds. … [cont.]

A. Depends on year and model of the car. Typically German auto parts are more expensive than Asian or American parts, but if you shop around you can find good reasonable prices for most German parts (autohausaz.com). I own a 1988 & 1989 Mercedes Benz 300SE (W126) and I find most parts are about the same as comparable Asian or American parts. What you pay for in a little price premium you more than make up for quality parts usually made in Germany rather than China. For some of the most expensive major parts, you can always look around for good used parts from ebay, craigslist, and local junkyards. As for labor, as long as you stay away from the dealers/stealers and find a good independent shop or mechanic (my MB mechanic charges me $30.0 [cont.]

Q. We are looking to buy a boat. But i wanna get downt to the bottom lines on how much everythign will cost. What is the aproximate cost for the maintenance of the boat per year. it is a 1998 regal 292. For me, here is a break down of the general yearly cost for my 25' cruiser with a single V8 outdrive setup. yearly slip fee: 1800 electricity yearly: 100 haul and block in winter: 300 launch in spring: 200 'short' engine winterize: 250 winterize fresh water system: 25 tune-up: 65 outdrive oil change: 50 mid season oil change: 30 ( I use it ALOT so I change twice a season) towing insurance: 120 yearly insurance: 525 Some of the stuff I do myself like the oil changes and the tune-ups as well as change the drive oil and winterize the fresh water system, I could winterize the engine myself however that is important and if its not done right and it freezes its on me, if the marina does it, its on them, its worth the extra cost.
